About National Integration Tour (NIT)

Our National Integration Tour (NIT) is organize under Operation Sadbhavana by the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army to foster educational and cultural awareness and knowledge among students for their future. A group of 22 students and teachers including 20 students and 2 teachers guide from various higher secondary schools of BTAD Kokrajhar district had gone to Mumbai, Pune and Goa by train and Bus. The 15-Days tour, arranged by the three Rajput battalion of Indian army Captain Shubham Deshmukh, Lieutenant Updesh Singh and Deepak Chauhan. This National integration Tour took place between the 19th November 2017 to 4th December 2017.

The Journey Begins: BTR Kokrajhar to Mumbai  National Tour

The tour was flagged off by Anurag Agarwal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of BTAD, at Patharghat in Kokrajhar. He extended his best wishes, expressing hope that the students would gain valuable insights and knowledge through the experience. The group will visit prominent educational institutions, renowned civic centers, and historical landmarks in Mumbai, Pune, and Goa, helping them connect with the broader cultural heritage of India. The participating students represent diverse communities, including Assamese, Bodo, Koch-Rajbonshi, Nepali, Rabha, Adivasi, and Muslim backgrounds, showcasing Kokrajhar's multicultural fabric.

Col. Jaiveer Singh, Commanding Officer of the Rajput Battalion, emphasized that this initiative aims to promote knowledge and awareness among students. During the tour, the team will explore various historical sites and notable locations across Mumbai, Pune, and Goa, fostering national integration and cultural understanding.

Brigadier Gagan Deep of the 11 Mountain Regiment, along with district administration officials, also attended the flag-off ceremony. Singh noted, “This tour will broaden the perspectives of young students and inspire them to take on future responsibilities in nation-building.


The Tour Begins : National Integration Tour BTAD Kokrajhar to Mumbai

Our journey starts on 19th November 2017 from Kokrajhar Railway Station at 9:53PM. After an exciting train ride, we arrived at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on November 21 at around 9:58 PM. As we neared Mumbai, the dazzling skyline with its towering buildings greeted us—a sight unlike anything we'd seen before. The city of Dreams seemed welcome us, and stepping into this bustling metropolis filled us with excitement. Upon arrival, the Indian Army welcomed us with open arms, transporting us to the army camp where we would stay during our time in Mumbai.

    Our tour officially began on November 22 with a visit to Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra. There, we had the privilege of meeting Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao. The lush surroundings, combined with the mesmerizing view of the Arabian Sea, created a serene atmosphere. Meeting the Governor was an inspiring experience, as he shared words of encouragement and reminded us of the importance of unity in our diverse country.

   Our next stop was one of Mumbai’s most iconic spots - the Gateway of India. Standing tall against the Arabian Sea, this historic monument offered a perfect backdrop for group photos. Right beside it stood the legendary Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, a sight of grand architecture and elegance. We could feel the weight of history at this place, thinking of the countless people who had walked these paths over the years.

After returning from the Elephanta Caves to the Gateway of India, we were greeted by a mesmerizing evening view. The beautifully illuminated Gateway of India stood tall, glowing with golden hues, creating a magical ambiance. Beside it, the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, adorned with dazzling lights, added to the charm of the scene. The shimmering reflections on the Arabian Sea and the vibrant city atmosphere made the moment unforgettable. We took in the stunning views, capturing photos and memories that will forever remain etched in our hearts.

A ferry ride from the Gateway of India took us to Elephanta Island, home to the famous Elephanta Caves. The cool breeze, the sight of sea birds flying beside us, and the rhythmic waves made this ride enchanting. Upon arriving, we explored the ancient rock-cut caves, marveling at the intricate sculptures that speak of a rich history. The caves, believed to date back to the 5th and 8th centuries, showcased a blend of Hindu and Buddhist art that was awe-inspiring.

The day concluded with an evening at Marine Drive, where we strolled along the “Queen’s Necklace,” named for the sparkling lights that adorn the crescent-shaped coastline. The cool sea breeze and the glowing skyline made this moment magical, and we felt the charm of Mumbai’s night life firsthand.

On November 23, we got the chance to explore the prestigious IIT Bombay. Walking through the campus felt surreal. The beauty of the campus, with a peaceful temple nestled within, added a sense of tranquility to the atmosphere. This institution has been the cradle of innovation for years, and we left feeling inspired by the knowledge and excellence it represented.


Sanjay Gandhi National Park Adventure : Kokrajhar Tour

Next, we ventured to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a green within the city. A mini-train took us on a scenic journey through the park, allowing us to catch glimpses of wildlife and nature. The highlight was boating in a small lake, where we laughed and splashed, creating memories with our friends that we would never forget.

    A surprise awaited us as we visited the set of the popular TV show CID. We met some of the show's iconic characters- Dayanand Shetty (Daya), Aditya Srivastava (Abhijeet), Dinesh Phadnis (Freddy), Ajay Nagrath (Pankaj) and Ansha Sayed (Purvi). There we saw some places of CID serial shown on TV like police station, jail, hospital, hotel reception and many more. After seeing all this we felt that actually the shooting scene takes place here. We felt very good after seeing this. Dayanand Shetty shared stories about the show’s long-running success, and we were all thrilled to have met these beloved actors in person.

    Dayanand Shetty (Daya) said that education is the most important thing, no matter what you do or which field you choose to pursue. Whether you want to become an actor, join the army, or start a business, having a strong educational foundation is essential. He also talked to us about how to become a CID officer.

    Aditya Srivastava (Abhijeet) mentioned that there is a director from Guwahati named Prabhas Baruah. Among many talented directors, Prabhas Baruah is also known for directing CID.

   Dayanand Shetty (Daya) further added that in the film industry, there are many talented Assamese individuals working as cameramen, writers, music directors, and more.


Day 3: Spiritual and Cultural Immersion : Mumbai

    Our third day, November 24, was filled with visits to sacred places. We started with Mahalaxmi Temple, where we experienced the calm of this beautiful Hindu shrine. The ambiance of devotion here touched us deeply. Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai is one of the city’s most revered Hindu temples, dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Built in 1831, it’s situated along the scenic Arabian Sea, offering devotees a tranquil and spiritual experience.


Haji Ali Dargah: NIT Assam

       Later, we visited the iconic Haji Ali Dargah, situated on an islet. Walking along the causeway to reach the dargah was a unique experience. The shrine, with its stunning architecture, offered a peaceful retreat where we could feel a sense of calm amid the busy city.


Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan : NIT BTR

    Afterwards, we toured Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, the state legislative building. At Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, we were warmly welcomed by a guide who explained the building's history, architecture, and its role as the legislative assembly of the state. The guide detailed the legislative process, from drafting bills to debating policies, giving us a glimpse into how governance operates. We learned about the roles of MLAs, the significance of the Assembly Hall, and how decisions made here impact millions. The structured explanation and firsthand insights into the democratic process left us with a deep appreciation for governance and its complexities.

    Next, we visited Nehru Centre, At the Nehru Centre, we explored a remarkable exhibition celebrating India's historical journey and cultural heritage. The Discovery of India section showcased India's evolution from ancient times to the present, highlighting its diverse art, science, and traditions. The intricate dioramas and detailed exhibits brought history to life. The visit was both educational and inspiring, leaving us with a deeper understanding of India's achievements and its global contributions.


Ending the Day at Mumbai’s Sea Beach

    Before heading back to the army camp, we took some time to unwind at one of Mumbai’s beaches. Feeling the sand beneath our feet, watching the waves, and laughing with friends made for the perfect ending to an unforgettable day.

As we headed back to Kokrajhar, each of us carried memories of this tour that would stay with us forever.
